A janitor at Kingman Primary School was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday night while taking out the garbage.
The 44-year-old employee at the school, 3129 NE Madison Ave., told police he was walking to the trash container in the alley on the south side of the school about 8:30 p.m., when a man wearing a ski mask approached him and asked for 50 cents.
The victim told the man he didn’t have any money and returned to his work, but the robber didn’t give up. Instead, he stepped closer, pointed a small, black handgun at him and told the victim to hand over his wallet, according to a Peoria police report. The janitor threw his wallet at the gunman, who caught it and ran north on Madison, the report stated.
The gunman was described as a black man, about 5 feet 11 inches and weighing 150 pounds, wearing a black parka and black sweat pants, according to the report.
No arrests had been made as of Wednesday.
