PEORIA —

A Central Peoria man was ordered held on $150,000 bond for allegedly breaking into a South Peoria home and threatening the couple inside with a broken bottle.

Bobby Jones Jr., 41, of 1120 W. Gift Ave. faces two counts of home invasion and one count of criminal damage to property for the incident early Friday.

Assistant State’s Attorney Steve Pattelli said police were sent to the 2000 block of West Howett Street on the report of a home invasion. On their way, they were flagged down by one of the victims, who had managed to slip out of the house to call police.

Once there, they found Jones and arrested him. According to the couple, Jones had come to their house earlier and an argument ensued. They got him to leave, but he returned about 2:30 a.m., kicked the door in and threatened the couple. While the husband calmed Jones down and got him to give up the bottle, the wife slipped out and called police.

Jones denied kicking the door in and said he was there to talk about the couple owing money to someone else.

Jones will next appear in court Dec. 4 for a preliminary hearing. If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison.

PEORIA —

A 19-year-old man was arrested Sunday morning and booked on a charge of attempted murder in a double shooting that occurred late last month.

Darius L. Stewart of 304 E. Republic Ave. is accused of shooting Lamar Howard, 26, and Jay C. Brown, 25, both of Peoria, during an argument just before 11:30 p.m. Oct. 26 in the 1300 block of John H. Gwynn Jr. Avenue.

Stewart was arrested about 2:40 a.m. Sunday in the 700 block of East Hightower Street and booked on a charge of unlawful use of a weapon. He was later booked on the attempted murder charge, as well as aggravated battery with a weapon.

He was being held Sunday at the Peoria County Jail.

The two victims were apparently arguing with three men outside a house when Stewart allegedly pulled out a handgun and began shooting at the two men, who ran into the home. Howard was found lying on the kitchen floor suffering from three gunshot wounds to the lower body and Brown made it into a bedroom, where he was found lying between the bed and a dresser suffering from five gunshot wounds, according to reports. They were both treated for the nonlife-threatening injuries at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.
